Kyowa Kirin
Kyowa Kirin, a global specialty pharmaceutical company based in Japan, opened its new 80,000-square-foot headquarters in Princeton, NJ. The new headquarters combined two previous office locations, intending to work more collaboratively across the different teams. To create this new office, Kyowa Kirin enlisted HLW for the interior design and branding experience.
The new office, spanning two floors, is thoughtfully divided into four neighborhoods, each with unique way-finding and a carefully chosen color scheme. The project’s guiding principle is the Japanese concept of Wa, which embodies harmony and the comfortable coexistence of groups.
The neighborhoods were designed to encourage team activity and collaboration, complement various work styles, and grow with the dynamically changing workforce. Each neighborhood includes focus stations, single-occupancy offices, team tables, huddle spots, vista seats, and lounges to enable choice throughout the day. In addition to the neighborhoods, the design includes a cafe to encourage employees to connect outside their typical team environments, a more extensive training room, and a tech workshop to support the neighborhoods.
HLW selected two of Fabbian’s pendant collections for the project’s community areas. For the cafe, HLW used Fabbian’s Lumi Mochi pendant lights. Mochi’s soft organic shapes complemented the overall design while providing the illumination needed for the space. HLW selected Fabbian’s Acustica pendants in the Concrete color for the lounge areas. Acustica’s large diameter shades defined the lounge spaces in the open areas while providing task illumination and acoustic functionality to absorb sound. Acustica’s concrete color worked perfectly with the lounge areas’ color schemes.
Fabbian’s Lumi collection offers versatility, function, and timeless style for corporate interiors. The Lumi collection is now available with 24V High Performance options including advanced LED and dimming, 277V, and “Capello” accessories. Acustica, with its sound-absorbing acoustic properties, flicker-free LEDs, multiple sizes and types, five standard colors, and 47 custom color options, provides endless solutions for function, aesthetics, and branding that corporate interiors require. Both the Lumi and Acustica families offer fully detailed Revit models to aid in the design process.
